This is an extremely rare American Classic! This is a nice example of what is widely regarded as the finest Opal locality in North America; the Virgin Valley, Nevada. This is actually petrified wood that has been entirely replaced by fine Precious Opal. So it is Opalized Wood. This has not been treated and seems to be more stable than most Opals I have seen from the locality. This is actually not from the Opal Mine but from a now closed locality several miles away from the mine that was on someone's private property. It is part of the same Opal deposit.
The fire and flash is intense with a beautiful play of color. Every color is present in the flash as the specimen is rotated relative to a light source. Beautiful transparency and overall just an excellent example from this American classic.
