25cm/10inch diameter, 1.235kg in weight. Polished vintage item, underside raw unpolished (seen in photos) very good vintage condition but no cracks or chips at all. DULCOTE AGATE CARVED POLISHED PLATE / PLATTER / TRAY - THIS STONE IS NO LONGER MINED MAKING THIS QUITE RARE AND VERY COLLECTIBLE. The colours on this are amazing, overall the appearance is a coral/red colour, but actually contains lots of colours from that palette - everything from cream right through to some deep mahogany bands. Cut and polished heavy, vintage gemstone tray from the Dulcote Quarry, near Wells, Somerset. The agates from Dulcote Quarry in the Mendip Hills are some of the finest in Britain but are no longer being obtained since the quarry was closed many years ago.
