Signed first edition, first printing (G-N code on copyright page), hardcover copy of Selected Poems by Gwendolyn Brooks (Harper & Row, 1963). Signed and inscribed by Brooks on title page. Rare signed copy of this collection of poetry by the acclaimed African American poet and novelist who was the first black recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for her work on Annie Allen in 1950.
A very clean and well-preserved copy. Jacket now protected in new (removable) archival sleeve but with mild shelf wear around the edges. Boards are straight and clean but with corners bumped and some slight scuffing to bottom edge. Spine ever so slightly cocked though binding remains firm. Tanning pages with pages 110&111 more significantly tanned due to newspaper clipping of Brooks stored in between those pages for years. Otherwise all pages are clean and unmarked.
