Solid right-hander Mike Scott pitched in Major League Baseball for the New York Mets and the Houston Astros. It was his adoption of the split-finger fastball in 1984 that turned him from ordinary to a future all-star and Cy Young winner.
He won the National League Cy Young Award in 1986, becoming the first Astros pitcher to win the award. Scott is also part of a select group of pitchers that have thrown a no-hitter and struck out 300 batters in the same season.
He had 124 wins, 108 losses, and career ERA of 3.54 with 1,469 strikeouts. He also took home a League Championship MVP award. The Houston Astros officially retired his number in 1992 to honor his accomplishments.
