Wonderful sculpture of David with the rock in his sling, ready to slay Goliath. Nice detail, down to the eagle he is standing on. Made in Italy and etched in the back A. Santini. What I could find out was that it is made from a type of compressed marble dust. This version is much less common than the Michaelangelo straight-on version of David. 15.5" tall, base is 5" square. Amiloare Santini created original art deco ladies with Russian wolfhounds, and dancing couples in the early 1930's. Highest quality Italian craftsmanship has rendered each of these most beautiful figurines. Amiloare Santini, was born in Italy, 1910, near the city of Florence in Tuscany. He became an apprentice to the sculptor Colombini at the age of twelve. He then traveled to Florence and attended the university there for four years. He was implemental of the process in combining marble, alabaster and resin. He passed away in 1975. Amiloare Santini was one of the finest sculptors of the period.
