Russian Legends Collector Plate

First in a series of limited edition plates of the Russian Legends collection. The 7 3/4" plate's artwork signed by Russian artist Gleb Lubimov is based on Alexander Pushkin's poem "Ruslan and Ludmilla." It was produced in the Russian Federation in 1988, making it the first collector's plate produced in the U.S.S.R. The plate is crafted using a tradition of miniature painting on lacquer, with up to 17 layers of colored pigment on black porcelain and enhanced with 18 karate gold. No fewer than 16 ceramic pigments have been fired into the fine porcelain plate body to create the work of art, undergoing 195 days of firing. The plate illustrates the ancient legend of heroic Knight Ruslan as he rescues the Duke of Kiev's daughter, Ludmilla, from the evil with Baba Yaga. The underside of the plate in Russian indicates it is plate # 2552x. Includes certificate of authenticity and description of the plate in its original box.
