This silver brooch was cast from sterling like the bears that Robert Kaniatobe would carve. Any of his jewelry is rare to find and a delight to wear. This piece is signed by Robert and his wife Kristen. c 1980
She had a shop in Albuquerque called Wild Strawberry, and it appears that she, and Robert signed some of their work together (see picture).

Measures about 1 3/4 inches long by 1 1/8 inches tall.

Robert Kaniatobe (1936-1998) was an acclaimed Choctaw artist renowned for his unique, handcrafted fetish necklaces. His jewelry is highly sought after for its distinctive style, which combined hand-carved bone or fossilized ivory figures (fetishes) with antique global trade beads.
