●Contents:
A painter, Kumi Sugai, is passionate about opposites: stasis and dynamics, saving and spending, form and non-form. A French poet discusses his artistic career, which began when he went to France at a young age.

Kumi Sugai
Initially influenced by Art Informel, he depicted forms resembling hieroglyphs, but around 1962 his style changed dramatically, and he began to create the "Autoroute" series, which depicted geometric forms in clear colors. From the 1970s, he began to paint more simplified and streamlined works, mostly consisting of combinations of circles and straight lines. They have something in common with road signs, which need to be instantly grasped by drivers while driving at high speeds. In his later years, he continued to paint the "S" series; the "S" stands for "Sugai" as well as the curves of a highway. (Wikipedia)
