The "Old Sleepy Eye" design, featuring a Native American with a traditional headdress and arrowhead patterns, is featured on this slag glass piece.
The beautiful blue slag glass adds depth and character to the design, with swirls of color that vary under different lighting conditions.
Old Sleepy Eye slag glass toothpick holders were primarily made by Guernsey Glass in the 1940s & 50s, w/some pieces potentially dating to the mid-20th century.
The maker’s mark of this company was a B in a Triangle. The B stands for Bennett. Present on the base of this piece.
Old Sleepy Eye is embossed above the head as indicated in 2nd photo.
While the "Old Sleepy Eye" motif originated in stoneware pottery in the late 1800s, the slag glass toothpick holders were a separate glassware product, popular during the mid-20th century.
They are a unique and sought-after collectible.
