The chacmool form of sculpure first appeared around 9h century AD in Valley of the Mexico and Yucatan Peninsula. It possibly symbolized slain warrior carrying offerings to the Gods . In Aztec examples ,the receptacle is cuauhxucally - a stone bowl to receive sacrificed human hearts . Some people describe this as man giving the offerings to the Tialoc , the raion god . Some believe that Chaosmool served as a messenger to the gods , conveying offerings and prayers from the human realm to divine
