Visible Mailbox by George Collins, Chicago. Pressed glass and aluminum. Great shape, with all the wonderful imperfections (see pictures) that come with antique glass. One imperfection even looks like a crack, but it’s just part of the pressed glass process.
Also! This particular one has a rare magazine grip. Most magazine grips on these items are lost by now.
When snapped open, the door catches the falling mail for you! Very cool design that was never even imitated.
Note that the bottom ‘opening’ tab has a minor crack, but works fine. See pictures.
These have their place in American history: one is currently on exhibit at the National Postal Museum.
