『茶の本』は英語で著され、後に邦訳された。天心は、日本人の住居や習慣をはじめ、衣食、器、絵画、文学に至るまで影響を及ぼしている茶道に着目。茶を喫するという日常的な営みを究極の芸術へと昇華させる独特の精神性を通じて、日本のみならず東洋における美の根幹や自然観、精神文化の豊さを世界に向けて唱えた。東洋と西洋の調和を願い、その架け橋となった天心の言葉は、今も世界中で読み継がれている。
