This listing is for an antique, homemade and hand-embroidered East Slavic traditional ceremonial textile: a "rushnyk."
This rushnyk is signed in embroidered cursive Cyrillic script and dated 1906. It features traditional red and black hand embroidery with a graceful script and stylized, geometric leaf & star - flower patterns. Also features handmade lace trim on both ends.
The rushnyk is made of ancient homespun hemp fabric, likely grown & spun within the same village. At 120 years old, it is in Very Good antique condition. It displays the usual snags, stains, flaws, and/or color variations that one would expect in an antique homespun linen. The designs and the fabric are intact and vibrant.
